So many projects, so little time...

...and theres just never enough time any more. Every evening I browse my usual haunts, looking for something to distract my mind whilst I work on which ever project has priority, currently I'm building a 'swamp house' for RM7, and I also have to finish my harbour crane by painting it. Then I have to finish another model house, this one a generic 'American style' wooden house, and also two commercial buildings which feature corrugated metal roofs. Then I have to paint a lot of packing cases which I built to go inside my commercial buildings. Apart from some wooden fence, and brick wall elements which also need painting, I only have to paint twenty odd figures and then I'm ready to start on the models for RM8...

Whilst all this is going on, my Norman Keep is sitting on my window sill, staring at me and any day soon, a client is due to inform me whether a set of drawings I did for her need to be corrected.

So much to do, and now its already 3am!

...which means its the tenth anniversary of 9/11. Already! Its horrific how short a decade is when your at the end of it. Its election time in Denmark at the moment (we vote on thursday) and the polls indicate a change of regime. The socialists stand to resume power, which they haven't had for a decade. I am not a big fan of socialism, in fact I think all ideologies are a curse that only lead to tears, so I'd be happier to see the current government continue. The fact is however, both sides of the political divide here are pro EU so I don't anticipate things are going to get better in Denmark, regardless of who wins, I only anticipate that things will get far worse, under a socialist government.

Pissing in the wind

Two of Denmarks televison channels raised 110 million kroner in the cause of starving Africans today and a lot of my family and friends on facebook have expressed pride and satisfaction. 110 million kroner is about $21 million US, or £13 million Sterling. Not bad for a small country like ours.

Unfortunately I cannot share the joy, because I no longer believe raising ever larger sums of money to give to the Horn of Africa is going to change anything at all. Denmark alone forks out 15 billion kroner a year on foreign aid and even this collosal amount of money hasn't prevented the people of that blighted region from waging non stop civil wars (with attendant genocides) or from having the planet's highest fertility rates.

If anything I am dejected that a quarter of a century after Live Aid, we still maintain the illusion that throwing alms to the poor is going to solve anything at all. It is especially galling that a significant proportion of the money and food sent to alleviate suffering in the third world, is stolen by corrupt officials in the recipient countries and in the UN, which has degenerated beyond the absurd as a means of solving geopolitical problems. In many cases aid money raised by charity in the west buys the very weaponry and ammunition which is a part of the cause of problems faced by the starving multitude.

Dreams of Scandinavia

The flag is flying at half mast at the Norwegian consulate on Stor torv (the central plaza of Aarhus) and the entrance to the building is barricaded with a small mountain of flowers. Six days since the massacre at Utøya and the news of a Danish casualty is the current head line. Hanne Anette Balch Fjalestad was a 43 year old medic who was on the island with her daughter Anna. Her body was identified in a local hospital and her father was notified. He is quoted at DR; "She died for Norway, and she will be buried in Norway".

I think most Scandinavians are feeling the same these days. Sadness, mixed with anger, confusion, some despair perhaps, but also a little hope for the future. Mass shootings are not uncommon and terrorism seems to have become daily fare, with equal numbers slaughtered on a regular basis in some parts of the world... yet for all that, Norway is almost like a Utopia and one doesn't expect Norwegians to act like this. Everyone I have spoken to has expressed the opinion that the murderer must be insane, because no sane person could carry out such an atrocity, but I'm conflicted on this. Plenty of sane people have carried out mass killing because they believed in what they were doing. I don't know whether insanity in the scientific definition of the word played any part in the murders on Utøya and at Oslo, but plain old fashioned madness certainly did.

I can't really say I am all that surprised that a major terrorist attack finally took place in Scandinavia (there have been so many thwarted already), or even that it was a Norwegian who attacked other Norwegians, (though I was expecting bombings in Sweden against Muslims) ...not after the political climate of the last decade or so. Now the left is predictably accusing the right of having fostered a malignant atmosphere and demanding the right take a share in the responsibility for the attacks, and predictably the right is replying in a similar vein. The truth, which is seldom referred to by ideologues, is that extremism exists every where and in every ideology and the murderer could just have easily justified his actions by reference to any of them.

The best part about living in Scandinavia are the freedoms we have. Any ideology that threatens those freedoms is suspect to my way of thinking and I include all political ideologies as potentially suspicious. I don't care for political parties because they are inherently ideological and I find the idea of political youth organisations to be offensive to my sensibilities. I don't understand why people accept the idea that the political indoctrination of children, however benign it may appear, is of any benefit to a democratic society. It seems to me that political parties foster political elites, and these inbred groups become locked into intractable ideological battles with each other that serve only to cripple democratic choices for the greater population.

My greatest fear for the future and for my children is not multiculture or immigration, by themselves these things are a part of life, but the loss of democratic freedom which I see as the only logical conclusion to the European Union. The EU is ruled by a blinkered political elite whose members were raised, and indoctrinated by ideological youth movements and the EU, with its internal corruption, its lack of democratic accountability, its aggressive attitude towards the sovereignty of its member states and its complete disregard for any poll or referenda which runs counter to its political designs, is the biggest threat to the peace and stability of Scandinavia.

No one but the murderer is responsible for the terror of Utøya, but the political classes, with their reptilian need to adhere to their obsessive ideologies bear the responsibility for the climate of fear and antagonism which has become traditional on Planet Earth.

I expect more terrorism in the near future because none of these ideological groups is going to back down first.

This, the great speech of the New European Preisdent has not been reported by the Danish media, at least not that I've been able to find, nor even the BBC. The 'Europe Channel' on You Tube carries the speech as you can see below but there is neither sub text nor audio translation so basically, I can't understand what this unelected President is saying to me. There are videos where Van Rompuy is speaking English, but they are few and far between.

Land of confusion

So, COP15 is over and every one is banging their heads, blaming the Damish Prime Minister for ending the world and calling the whole thing a disaster. In the meanwhile, Denmark just saw its coldest December night since 1981.

The world has been ending ever since as far back as I can remember. As a boy I went on sponsored walks to save otters, collected rubbish at the side of the road to stop pollution and believed I was making a difference by joining the World Wildlife Fund (Now called the World Wide Fund for Nature).

The stories of the chaos in Copenhagen indicate only one thing to me; No one has a clue. Nothing has been proven about man made global warming, but the politicians speak as if it were. Polar Bears are celebrated as being on the verge of extinction, and yet the worlds leading expert on the snow bears was told to stay the hell away because he was being 'unhelpful' for pointing out there are currently more Polar Bears than at any time in recorded history. Greenpeace, whom as a boy I regarded as a neutral organisation, paraded themselves in Polar Bear suits. Suffice to say, I can only regard Greenpeace as self appointed crusaders today. Watching the footage and hearing the stories of how 'activists' turned Copenhagen into a running conflict with the police, all I can wonder is, who benefits from such 'demonstrations' of hysteria?

Its been twenty years since I first heard of global warming. Back then they were talking about the sea rising by six metres by 2005. I remember this clearly because I plotted out a graphic novel based on the assumption that Århus would be drowned by a Ballardesque tropical swamp. Of course I never drew it because in those days I never finished any of my projects.
To date the sea hasn't risen six metres and Århus is still here.

I'm told the global temperature has risen. I don't know why, I don't know what the truth is. What I do know is that 'the good guys' have been caught withholding data, the 'bad guys' are crowing loudly, every ones getting funded by some one, and Denmarks most credible opponent of man made global warming went and had a minor heart attack on live TV so he never got to present his case, and I'm still none the wiser. Hope he gets better.

Twenty years ago, the world was the same though. There were a lot of stories. A lot of political ambitions masquerading as altruism; Greenpeace, CND, Friends of the Earth. Who are all these people?.
Thirty years ago it was much the same. My memory doen't go much further back than that.

Its Christmas in a few days time and the 'good guys' are fighting with the police, in the streets, to save the world.

Defending freedom with cowardice

This is not my original project. I intended to take a picture of a [semi] naked Muslim girl, wearing a veil. She would have the blood of a rape on her underwear and thighs and be tied to a stake. A group of Muslim men would be stoning her for her sin. The head teacher forbade me to do this picture as it was felt the threat to the school was too great. Individuals are recognised as such by their opinions and appearance. Is it right to censure on the basis of fear? Long live Freedom of Expression.

Copenhagen West – Ishøj Gymnasium held an exhibition of photographs, entitled, Tabu. The Subject was modern day taboo's and the students posed the quetion, are there any taboos left in modern society? The photograph and quoted caption above are from the exhibition.

At the same time, two Danish artists who go by the name 'Surrend', showed paintings of the Danish Crown Prince, nude, in a satirical poster meant to lambast the OIC which is about to hold meetings in Copenhagen. The Crown Prince is naturally expected to remain silent on the issue, and keep any observations to himself. In other words, he is such a sitting duck, or fish in a barrel if you prefer, for satire employed against him can hardly be said to have any actual purpose, if indeed it is really satire at all.

Three Danish soldiers killed in Afghanistan

Three Danish soldiers were killed in Afghanistan by a road side bomb yesterday. They were all in the Guards Hussar Regiment, and were killed on Highway 1, in Helmand province. This brings the total of Danes killed in Afghanistan to twenty five. British experts have examined the site and concluded the bomb was most likely hidden in a water drain that ran under the road. The Afghan military is said to be guarding Highway 1, but have been unable to defend it. A British soldier was also killed in a similar attack on the same stretch of road not so long ago.

As before, and in the future I fear, my thoughts and sympathy are with the families of these brave men, and I hope they can take some small comfort in the thought that their sons died for a worthy cause. I shall remember their loss, and the pain of their families, as I remember those that went before them. Their sacrifice for my democratic freedom shall not be in vain.

Om fremtiden

"Henriette Kjær har 28/2 en kronik i JP, hvor hun spørger, hvordan vi får indvandrere til at blive gode samfundsborgere. Hun gør opmærksom på, at vore indvandrere, født som danskere, ikke føler sig danske, men fortæller, at de kommer fra et andet land.

Det betyder ganske enkelt, at det går tilbage på forældrene, som aldrig er blevet danske og vel derfor burde rejse tilbage til det land, som de er kommet fra, sammen med deres børn.

Jeg kan simpelt hen ikke forstå, hvem der har givet, lad os bare sige Vestens politikere, tilladelse og magt til at åbne deres grænser for en flok kulturelt anderledes stillede mennesker.

Jeg er ikke i tvivl om, at man har fået noget - måske i form af olie? - og derpå skrevet under på, at man til gengæld ville modtage en flok muslimer, som jo hurtigt er blevet til særdeles mange muslimer og nok er en stor pestilens for de fleste lande, for sandheden er, at Vesten er blevet ødelagt ved hele den muslimske indvandring.

Jeg kunne godt lide at vide, hvem der har sådan en magt i Danmark, at han/hun kan gøre det mod vort land uden at lade befolkningen noget vide?

Gamle mennesker som mig, der har kendskab til et dejligt land i min barndom, ungdom og voksenalder, er klar over, at vi aldrig får vort gamle land tilbage.

Derimod har vi fået et ros ind i vort land, som vi tidligere har set i andre lande, men aldrig i Danmark.

Vore politikere tror, at de kan købe sig fra problemerne med penge; de burde være blevet klogere for år siden. Mere og mere elendighed ser vi hver dag, men vi skal bare finde os i situationen og holde vor mund, selv om indvandrerne aldrig vil blive danskere. Vi får lov til at betale og se på, hvilken skade der anrettes i vort land.

Sidst, men ikke mindst: Mon ikke vore aner roterer i deres grave? De har slidt for deres land, gjort deres bedste. Hvad gør vi?

Vi kan end ikke videregive vort fædreland til vore børn og børnebørn, vore politikere har frastjålet os vort fædreland.

Er det EU, der står bag, hvad noget kunne tyde på, kan jeg kun sige: Lad os komme ud af EU, hellere i går end i dag".

The pleasures of multiculture

Things are heating up in Scandinavia these days. Central parts of Copenhagen have been turned into a veritable war zone with gangs of immigrants fighting each other, the Hells Angels, the media and the politicians with varying levels of aggression and defiance. As always, the innocent are paying the heaviest price and the ninety shootings which have taken place in Copenhagen in the last few months have left three dead and numerous wounded. On top of this, immigrant gangs have started stopping people in the street and searching any one who enters 'their territory'. The police have responded with additional manpower, but have yet to provide an adequate response able to stop the violence. The media has reported that gang members stopped by the police have been found to be wearing bullet proof vests.

The obvious outcome of all this, is fear. The populace of Copenhagen has begun to adapt to the new situation by avoiding the 'war zones'. The police have asked people to go about their business as usual, but the many shootings, and the multitude of stabbings and beatings which have taken place in recent months have served to illustrate the dangers of pretending every thing is normal in Copenhagen these days (Article is in Danish). It hasn't escaped peoples notice either that should you be stopped and beaten by a gang of Muslim immigrants, the police, even if they catch them at it red handed, will not press charges. Recent examples (video is in Danish) illustrate all too clearly how powerless the Danish police have become when faced with the ever repeated accusation of racism, or Islamophobia.

Naturally a demonstration for peace and tolerance brought several hundred people on to the streets on friday and the mother of one of the dead has issued a plea for peace in Jyllandsposten (article in Danish).

The politician directly responsible for integration in Copenhagen, is an openly homosexual social democrat called Jacob Hougaard. He can be seen here, being attacked by bottle throwing immigrants as he attempts to answer questions put to him by a journalist. Should it matter that Jacob Hougaard is both gay and tasked with integrating people who have serious problems with homosexuality? I don't know, but I find it hard to believe that he can overcome the rampant homophobia of the people throwing bottles at him. Good luck with that Jacob.

Denmark is not alone in enjoying the pleasures of multiculture. The city of Malmø in Sweden (just across the sea from Copenhagen) was the scene of another violent anti Israel demonstration by 6,000 Muslim immigrants and those left wing shock troopers known as the Autonome. Naturally the Danish police sent reinforcements.

The politics of story telling

Salman Rushdie and Irshad Manji speaking on the politics and history of story telling and identity issues facing the world today. Very interesting, and quite amusing. This is the sort of stuff they ought to show on DR instead of imams and socialists debating how bad Pia Kærsgaard is. Ironic that is free to download on You Tube whilst DR's rubbish will cost me thousands of kroner in enforced fee's. And here I was thinking Communism was dead.

Two Israeli's were shot by 'a Dane' in Odense, thats the BBC headline anyway, they kept his ethnic identity off the headline as if to suggest some one other than a Palestinian had gone on a shooting rampage. The head Rabbi of Denmark suggested the Imams of the Islamic Faith Society make a public statement against such violence in Denmark but the Islamic Faith Society, never shy of publically speaking out against Islamophobia in Denmark, declined to make any comment. A silence that speaks for itself.

Here are some of 'the Dane's' hooded friends expressing their opinion on the matter on TV2's national news. Its in Danish, but for those of you unfortunate to not be fluent in our beautiful language, here is a brief translation of what the nice man says...

"He is one of the first ones in Demark who has shown a big... a big... a great... a great...
Well, you should have seen the great party we threw over this yesterday. I really hope every one supports him."

He is one of the first? One of the first what?

The guy with the glasses concludes saying he doesn't agree with what the man did, but he understands. Well, I do too. Its not hard to understand. This so called 'Dane' shot two defenceless people simply because they were Israeli's, and he did it in the middle of a Danish shopping mall. Its not hard to understand, nor is the politician's apparent disinterest nor the tacit acceptance of the Danish Muslim population that shooting Israeli's is something worth celebrating.

I read this today and I can sense the truth in it. If this issue isn't dealt with by Europe's media and political leadership, then I believe we are heading for very bad times.

It is hard to believe that while Shoah victims and holocaust survivors still walk among us, that we would witness an evil so severe and grotesque that it would make the rhetoric of the Third Reich look mild.
Yes, the Nazis killed millions -- that was the obvious monstrous result of their campaign.
We have not yet witnessed the "final solution" of Islamic jihad -- but there are incontrovertible facts that are blinding. The Nazis hid their crimes. The Nazis pretended to be doing one thing while subversively carrying out its "extermination" of Jews, gypsies, "undesirables", etc. They engaged in rhetoric and obfuscation.

This time is different. The Muslims are not engaging in rhetoric. They are not pretending. They want the Jews dead and they exult in their wild screams of blood lust. Such joy, such happiness at their Jew hating chants from a joyless people.
The Germans went to war, conquered countries and with the help of those weak governments and people annihilated the Jews. The Holocaust was a German initiative subsequently carried out by every nation the Nazis conquered in Europe, with the exception of Denmark.
It's not a national initiative this time. It's global........... a wave of evil has washed over this earth like a veritable tsunami and it has colored everything.

I expect this barbarity and Jew hatred from the Arab/Islamic world. It's what they do and what they have always done.

But what was the lesson that Europe learned after the holocaust? It was not that evil is bad and that they behaved like monsters, but, as Caroline Glick said in our interview, that " rather that everything was caused by nationalism and therefore what we really need to do is have a European Union that will obviate our need for nationalism so that we can become this transnational gobbletygook and we'll all get together and therefore we won't have another Auschwitz". But really the lesson the Europeans should have been is that "we were evil and we have to be good. And that is the lesson we have to learn and and we have to be able and willing to make moral distinctions and stand up for the good and fight evil and that is something the Europeans refuse to do."

Once again Europe chooses to embrace madness and evil as its central unifying characteristic. And this time England is leading the way.

I believe good will triumph over such overwhelming odds and numbers. I know it in my bones, but one has to look at the global landscape and say, at what cost? LINK.

As Malmø burns for the second night running and Gjellerup church escapes its fifth arson attack this year, Kurt Westergaard (who has yet to be murdered despite the best efforts of two Tunisians) has sent a nice Christmas card to the Free Press Society. The text reads "Self censorship only makes the truth more convincing". The figure holds a small sign that reads 'Freedom of speech'.

Afghanistan

Denmark has lost two more soldiers in Afghanistan, twenty nine year old Overkonstabel Dan Gyde and twenty two year old Konstabel Jacob Grønnegaard Gade were killed on Thursday.

My heart weeps for their families, not least at this time of year when family becomes all the more important. Its not more than a week ago that I saw an interview with the wife of Major Anders Storrud who was killed 16th Oct 2007. One year on since his death, his wife spoke of the lack of support from the official military, musing that our small country with no tradition for war, doesn't really understand the sacrifices asked of its personnel. She described the difference in how the soldiers of Anders Storrud's unit, who have supported her and helped finish the building of her home to the sudden stop of pay and official silence from the state.

I grew indignant watching the report, I must say. How morally destitute are we when we cannot even pay a decent compensation to the families of our soldiers? Were it up to me, any children left behind would be granted a million kroner a piece and I'd still consider that a poor demonstration of gratitude.
