moif & the Snoos day 1

Mette and Magne have gone off to Copenhagen to visit Mette's best friend Camille, leaving Freja and I to our own devices all week end. I had planned to get a load of painting down for my upcoming Rocketman campaign, but day one has passed with Freja pretty much setting the agenda. We started off with a trip to the doctor. Freja has a nasty red rash on her lips and cheeks (see image below from last week) and the usual creams and potions have no effect. The doc conjured up a new paste and I'm hoping it does the business because Freja's face looks very tender at the moment. The worst part is, it looks like Magne may be getting the same thing, but we can't tell yet.

The city was drenched with rain. Its odd to think that last week the weather was nice and hot and I almost switched to high summer clothing. Today the temp was a lousy 12-14C and it pissed down all day. The image above was taken at 11am!

Most of the city was busy despite the rain, and Freja was in her element. She loves splashing about and getting wet and being cold doesn't seem to bother her at all. We went to the chemist to pick her meds and she spent almost half an hour running about the puddles and water on the city's central plaza.

After we got home, I gave Freja a present, 'The Tigger Movie'. I'd given her '101 Dalmations' on thursday and my plan is to use these two new films to keep her under some semlence of control. I know its pathetic but I'm not used to looking after Freja when Mette is not around. usually she takes Freja with her when she goes visiting her friends. Alas for the Snoos, Magne's birth means he gets to stay with Mama and Dada gets to deal with the human dynamo. Another small problem was 'The Tigger Movie' is quiet melancholy with poor Tigger searching for his none existant family in a winter landscape for most of the film. Not what I'd expected at all. The Snoos was quite saddened by it.

Don't get me wrong. I love my daughter, but she is very hard to keep up with. She has about three times as much surplus energy as I do. Thankfully her bed time is at 8pm so I can relax as soon as the Disney hour is finished.

Tomorrow I think we shall go to the playground, unless the rain is torrential all day long ...should be fun.

Edited to add; the photoshopped sky as the sun went down;

5th May 1945

Today was the sixty second anniversary of the liberation of Denmark by the Allied forces (more specifically by Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery). Apart from some flowers by the war memorial on Europa plads, I saw no indication that this event has any relevance at all in todays Danish society. The difference between Liberation Day and May 1st was pretty obvious. Whilst the war has faded from people's minds, the old twentieth century idea of class struggle is still seen as relevent to a great many people. I'm not sure what this means, if anything.

5th May 2007

I cycled out to Moesgaard expecting it to be full of people on such a fine day but was astounded to find the beach almost deserted. Only one family were brave enough to face the sea, which had to be really cold and I sat and watched a guy with a kite do some pretty impressive aerobatics. The weather was beautiful today and the forest was radiant. The sea was dotted with white sails and I listened to the album Yes produced incognito as I cycled.

Mette is in Copenhagen all weekend visiting her friend Camille and little Freja has spent the week end with her maternal grand parents (today they visited the zoo). Its been the first time she's ever slept away from either of us and apparently gone very well. I spoke with my mother in law over the phone and I could hear Freja chuckling and laughing in the back ground. I wa happy to hear things went well, but also a little jealous too. Every one returns tomorrow and I shall show some idea's I've had for decorating the bedroom with cute animals for Freja's entertainment to Mette.

Freja & a moif world update

Mette has just left for København, for to see Camilla's son Hampus, who I am glad to say, has left his incubator and is taking nutrients onboard in a steady manner. They say it will be a while before he puts on enough weight to be in the clear as yet, but all the indications are the little guy is going to be okay.

So the Snoos and I are alone for the rest of today and the first half of the morrow and its the first night of her entire life that Freja has not had her mother at her beck and call... so this is going to be 'interesting'. I anticipate a night of wails and screams and much frustration. Maybe I'll just stay awake all night and play EVE? *Giggles*

Freja is doing well these days. She's been at day care for a week and a half now and has seemingly settled right in. Mette takes her in in the mornings, before she goes to class (she's on a computer course, learning various graphics software) and I pick her up at around 14:30, which is about half an hour after the kids have had their lunch... though usually Freja is still at the table when I arrive. She is a slow and easily distracted diner. Mette reports that when Freja arrives, those children who can speak, all shout out "Hello Freja", which does my heart no end of good to hear since the truth is, I am at home all the time these days and could easily take care of the Snoos it it were simply a matter of money and the reason why we have put Freja into day care is for the interaction with other children. And this seems to have paid off no end. Freja appears to be thriving in the company of her peers and we've both noticed she is more lively as a result. She is also more apt to whine and demand things now, but we were expecting this, so, like the sudden viral onslaught that has afflicted her (and me) its no big surprise... though it is a (literal) pain in the arse.

So its 13:26, saturday, 11th November, 2006. Freja is asleep and EVE is mining quietly in the background and in four days time I will reach 37 years. Odd. In the later, morbid days of my teenage years I never thought I'd make it past thirty (I was almost certain that I'd have killed myself before then) whilst back in the dawn of history, when I became 'self aware' at the age of seven, thirty seemed like an eternity away (but looking in the opposite direction I find that seventy four does not seem all that far away). I remember counting the years forward one day and discovering that I'd be thirty in the year 2000 and back in 1977, the year 2000 had a certain glamour about it. To a budding sci fi enthusiast, it was the future! I was over joyed to realise that I'd be an adult in the time of space travel and flying cars and I remember thinking to myself that I was going to be an astronaut!

A few years later I realised that there weren't going to be any flying cars or space ships. That I was going to miss them all... of course, in those days I didn't know about EVE.... =)

If your thinking that I never grew up, then you are correct. I've never moved away from that moment in time when I was seven years old and I realised I was going to die. Everything I see today is measured and weighed up by the perspective of that seven year old boy. I know this is true because I spent hours talking to a shrink and she basically told me I live in a state of a perpetual fear of death... which I don't mind, so long as I don't die any time soon!

...and then Freja woke up crying and wailing. Thanks to Pingu though we were soon happy again =)

So, anyway, its my birthday in four days time and before I wrap this post up, I'd like to say thank you to whom ever sent me 'rue de casacades' by Yann Tiersen. I suspect I know who it is (a certain sleepy some one I suspect) but of course I can't be certain since there was no name on the invoice.

Freja: 9 months old today

Today is Pipski’s nine-month birthday! As usual I have taken a special photograph of our delightful little girl in order to keep a record of how her face develops.
When she reaches the age where she can stand alone, I will also start taking pictures of her against a white background with the intention that at some point in the future we will be able to make an animation that shows her actually growing up. I’m not sure how I’ll do this yet. I need to think of a way that clearly shows her height.
The portrait pictures go in a special book I’ve been keeping and they document what her face looks like each month.

Yesterday Mette’s friend Camille came by on a visit from Copenhagen. She was as good looking and charming as ever, and she brought the news that she is also pregnant! The baby boom around me continues. Her due date is Christmas day.
It’s a sort of tradition that when Camille comes by in the summer we all go to the beach, so yesterday was Pip’s first encounter with the sea… and she loved it until Mette dipped her toes in the water and then she screamed in shock and anger since it was icy cold. I waded in, with Freja in my arms to just over my ankles and it was so murderously cold that I had to get out after two minutes because it hurt so much!

Of course, Mette and Camille both went out and dipped into the sea. Scandinavian women are insane! Neither stayed in the water for more than thirty seconds though.
