Moving

Mette and I have been living in the same apartment since 2004, and though its getting kind of cramped now with three kids, its served us well over the years. Living in the center of the city has had significant advantages too. The time has come for us to move though. Some, as yet unknown property developer, has applied for permission to demolish the building we live in and replace it with thirty five, small student accomidation type flats. The law requires the developer rehouses us at their expense, but only in as much as to provide us with a home corresponding to the size of the one we have now; in other words, too small for five people. So we're off. Out of the city, and to a place where the children can have each their own room and a garden to play in.

We are moving to a small sleepy village to the north of Aarhus, called Todbjerg. Unfortunately, our economy does not allow us the luxury of buying a house, so we have rented another apartment. Compared to the space we have now, it should be really good. Its a leap into the unknown however, and it will cost us more to live there than here, not least in transport costs, etc. The image shows the house from the back. The apartment is the left side of the building. There is a room for each of the children, and a room each for Mette and I (the window to the extreme left will become my little studio)

That's exciting news! How are the children reacting to the idea?

I don't think Magne and Vilde understand the consequences though Freja does. She will lose daily contact with her school friends and at least two of these are very sad to know she is moving. One in particular, who already lost another good friend due to his parents moving house, has reacted with frightening intensity. Freja is aware of this, and wants to throw a farewell party for her class

Changing schools is difficult, but I hope this will be a fun adventure for Freja. I looked at the satellite map and Todbjerg looks like it has an abundance of wide open green space. So lovely.

Cyan - Its surrounded by fields mostly, but there are som woods too, and within a easy bike ride. Its not too far from Kalø Vig either, so I'm guessing we'll be going there more often once the sun gets going again.

Paul - Thanks. Hopefully new opportunities also!
