Freja: 14 months old.

I've noticed in the last few days that the Snoos is beginning to develop what seems to be a basic sense of cause and effect. She's long since mastered the notion that the remote controls the TV, but now she's beginning to experiment with light switches and electrical sockets (despite my best attempts to prevent her). She has a very definate interest in any sort of button and will press anything that remotely resembles one.

She's also becoming a regular tyrant when ever food is involved (I can hear her in the kitchen now) and, stretching out a graspping hand, she makes a strange grunting sound that makes me think she is desperate for words. When we put her to bed now, we have a new routine that works better then the old way. Before we would sit with her, stroking her cheek or hair and murmuring at her, lulling her to sleep. (We call this 'nussing')

Now we brush her teeth (all four of them) then sit and read a book for 5 minutes (usually Winnie the Pooh which is her favourite) then put her to bed, give her a minutes 'nus' than walk calmly away. Usually we leave the door open and that calms her since she can hear us moving about. This seems to work very well. Freja falls asleep quite fast now and there is none of the whining and crying of a few weeks ago.
