The Lost Continent
By Edgar Rice Burroughs
I thought why not? After all, it was a slim novel and probably a classic of some kind and Burroughs was famous for his adventurous tales of other worlds. What could be more interesting than a tale about an intrepid American who returns to the lost continent of Europe? I kept my expectations low so as not to be disapointed, and yet I was still disapointed. Not because the story was bad (it was) or because the premise was laughable (this too), but because it was so poorly done. I got the distinct impression that this story was just something Burroughs pushed out over a week end when he was feeling pressured by an editor, but he'd been up all friday night at a party.
