Iran condemns Hollywood war epic.
Whats notable about this BBC article is that they describe the film as an historical war epic which it is not. The film is based on a comic book and can hardly be described as an historical epic of any kind.

I really liked the graphic novel. I'm looking forward to the film... but could be horribly let down (as a film is far, far longer).
Moif, you love to look for political subtexts.
Sure, Greek civilization resisted Persia, but Sparta didn't have much to do with freedom.
... and later Spartans were even weirder.
Also, what has happened to education? I had to explain to my elder son that the story is based on historical events, as he'd never heard much of classical history.
Oleg.
I'd say the Spartans were like the Nazi's myself, only the Spartans make the SS look like pansies.
When I was at school in the UK we didn't have anything about the greeks either. That whole classical education thing was scrapped decades ago. We had the history of medieval England, the founding of the USA (in which the UK's part was barely touched upon) and the slave trade, (in which the UK's part was very much touched upon).
Towards the end I recall the teachers strikes were an annual season of cancellations and guest teachers but one hairy headed, cardigan wearing fool stands out in my memory. He came in a few times and his pet subject was the emancipation of women.
Later at uni, studying art history, I was bombarded with that guys clones. Left wing and anti establishment every single one of them.
They never mentioned the Greeks either. As far as these people were concerned the history of art started with Picasso. All that came before him was relegated to the scrap pile of male chauvanism.
I've not read the graphic novel myself (I'm not too fond of Miller's work) and I didn't think much of 'Sin City' either. I don't like negative spaces in black. Also I was taught to never use black as a substitute.
I like the Spartans from a purely gamers perspective. Because they were hard core! but I've never given them much time, though I did recently read 'Thermopylae - battle for the west'. I'm sure there are plenty of sub texts in this film and having read the IMDb forum on it I see most of those complaining are focusing on homophobia and racist accusations. I'll have to see the film before I can elaborate on those, but if, as I understand the film depicts 300 white people against a million black people then I can understand why turnea over at AD disliked the film so much.
But I'm not too bothered by that. If it were the other way around then I'd watch it any way and not be too bothered by the 'racism'.
...you know, what strikes me is how similar a lot of the iconography in the trailer mirrors Slaine...
Now there's a film I'd like to see made! (with a big budget)
Going to see 300 this Thursday here in the UK !
Hi Andrew.
I like your blogs a lot. Your 3d stuff is excellent. I wish I had the tools n talent to try it out.
Alas, I'm unable to post comments on your pages though. I don't know why. It tells me anonymous comments are not allowed, even when I'm logged in.
Saw this movie last night and my first reaction on leaving the cinema was "I want to go back in and see it again!" it was that good.
The action is unrelenting, the vsual presentation is stunning, the soundtrack awesome and the dialogue is just like a comic book. Add in to all that it acually looks like how you'd imagine a wargame to be if the figures could move then you have a treat of a film.
Must see movie.
